Many Routes Through the PACT Processes for ISD Efforts

Here are some views from the master map of routes through the PACT Processes…PACT is a set of ISD concepts, models, methods, tools, templates, and techniques organized into the “Processes” and phases of PACT…where there are 3 levels of ISD “Design” to help you meet the scope and scale of what your next customer’s need and constraints are in the real world.

1- A typical CAD effort…4 phases…where one project can address one target audience fully, partially but targeted – to addressing several target audiences related to one set of Enterprise processes. Multiple CAD efforts can be conducted simultaneously for different audiences.

2- A typical MCD or IAD effort…the PACT Processes version of “ADDIE”…producing one or more instructional products/ learning solutions…

3- A typical CAD and MCD/IAD Combined effort…where the client wants to determine the performance-based requirements and existing content, configure all of the existing and gap content, and then build out all of the gaps of CAD – Curriculum Architecture Design content – whatever those gaps may be for the ideal path…

4- is where Analysis and Design can be combined into the same meeting effort…

5- is where the Analysis and Design efforts are combined and the Pilot-Test is dropped. Good for development of more of the same type of content where you trust your processes and templates to get it done. Of course, you evaluate to determine content and method effectiveness and efficiency…

6- is more of a rapid development effort where the analysis, design and development are all done at once and then without any Pilot-Testing it is released for access and/or deployment. Perfect if a CAD effort previously laid out the boundaries between this effort and others so minimal gaps and overlaps occur – and that their is trust in the processes and templates to impact performance competence…

7- here there is great trust in the process for development, and the templates. Typical when addressing “more of the same” type of content and audience…such as policy/procedure type content, or process overviews, or product knowledge, sales skills, etc.

8- Here is where many development efforts can occur simultaneously and then released. Great if there is trust in the process and the product’s ability to impact awareness, knowledge or skill, by design.

The intent of this “boxing” of project tasks/outputs is to provide flexibility in meeting customer needs – and still maintain the integrity of the performance data orientation of PACT.

And of course, every milestone review is subject to being eliminated – as appropriate to the client’s and supplier’s situations. Most time they are needed, but not every time.
