Stories should be “set up” so that the point will not be lost in any complexities inherent in the story.
And while simple is usually best – not every story can be made simple – if it is to still be “authentic” enough. The more complex it is – the more the “set up” is important.

The “set up” of a complex story – so as to not lose the listener in the details – might require the same 3-part structure as a Presentation. See the Lessons in Making Lemonade (LiML) cartoon strip above for my thinking on this.
