Consequences Sets the Table for Culture – Which Can Eat Your Strategic Lunch – Everyday All Day Long

You’ve heard it and read it:

Culture Eats Strategy for Lunch.

Maybe you’ve read this from me before…

Culture Is the Consequences.

It is the Consequence System in place – deliberate or inadvertent – that allows a culture to exist.

It tolerates discrimination – or it doesn’t. It encourages rational risk taking – or it doesn’t.

It “celebrates” (read: communicates) failure with encouraging more – or it doesn’t.

If Culture is eating your Strategy for lunch – and spitting it out – perhaps what’s happening is quite rational – and to be expected – and is in Management’s control.

Or do you think they are helpless. And should give up and go home. And just live with it?

Or what?

The Long and Short of It

Short term consequences are more impactful for most of us – than longer term ones.

The Positives and Negatives of It

And the severity – and assuredness of the positive or negative consequences  – the meaningfulness of those consequences – is trickier.

They are difficult to generalize – they need to be more personalized – for them to work.

Which is why – perhaps – that Culture Eats Strategy for Lunch – most every day.
