Today I Give Back Via Another Sharing Session
I am doing a webinar for the ISPI Bay Area Chapter – in the San Francisco/Oakland, etc. area, on Learning Architecture or Curriculum Architecture or Performance Support Architecture – whatever name fits your situation, your need… use that.
The link to their site about this is – here.
Producing Performance Development Paths for High Impact Target Audiences
I’ll be in my hotel room in the GTA – Greater Toronto Area – that evening – dealing with the 3 hour time difference as if it were nothing at all. Ah, Technology.
Love it when it works.
This will be/was my 112th Presentation to a professional group, since the first on November 1, 1982,which was to the NSPI Chapter in Houston Texas – where BTW – I met the guy who brought me into my current gig – an 18-month effort in Toronto.
This is in fact my third project for this guy, the Prime Contractor on this gig, the first being right after meeting in early 1983, and then again in 1985, and then much much later, in 2013.
So the ROI of Sharing is…can be… worth it. IMO/IME.
This week is Week 51 on this gig – as I end my 2 week break for the holidays – and head back to the GTA.
So I am well rested for this opportunity to Share.
Why Share?
Sharing
Sharing freely is the “tradition I was raised in” in my professional home – NSPI which I joined in 1979 – which became ISPI in the mid 1990s – and almost everyone involved with ISPI actually did this sharing freely thing.
No selling from the podium – and otherwise. Sharing. I have many mentors from NSPI/ISPI and the number one was the late Geary A. Rummler. He was an exemplar when it came to sharing.
I had told Geary back in 1999 that I would never be able to pay him back – so I would pay it forward.
He smiled and said that was what he was doing.
Geary had just reviewed my “lean-ISD” book and besides writing a great review he also re-designed the covers of the book – as he didn’t like the version I had designed for the review draft.
I used his.
He had shared so freely, so much with me already to that point – that for him to then read the 410 page book, write a review, and then redesign the cover, well, that was just too much.
Over the top.
But just like Geary.
And others.
They set the bar high, if you know what I mean. Good stuff. Lots of it.
So I continue to pay it forward – and attempt to give due credit where credit is due.

The Webinar Pre-Reading
This is “Chapter 1” of my 2011 book: Performance-based Curriculum Architecture Design…
Most won’t have read this – In My Experience – but people like the option. So here that is…
The First Presentation on CAD – 1985
I did this – the first national presentation on CAD – in April of 1985 at NSPI (now ISPI).
CAD – NSPI – 1985 – 21 page PDF – this is the first national presentation on the Curriculum Architecture Design methodology which Guy Wallace delivered at the NSPI Conference on April 24, 1985 – the 1st presentation of this was done for the Chicago Chapter of NSPI the previous fall in 1984.
The First Article on CAD – 1984
CAD – Training Mag – 1984 – 6 page PDF – the first publication about Curriculum Architecture Design via a Group Process – published in Training Magazine in September 1984.
Original manuscript (30 pages) – How to Build a Training Structure That Won’t Keep Burning Down.
Also – published 2 months later in NSPI’s PIJ…
Models and Matrices- NSPI PIJ -1984 – 5 page PDF – the first publication of the performance and enabler analysis methods for ISD, from NSPI’s (ISPI’s) Performance & Instruction Journal, November 1984.
The Rummler Quote
The Lean-ISD book – Available As a Free 410-Page PDF
CAD is one of my 3 levels of “ISD Design” – my 3 ISD methodology sets – which share my Analysis and Project Planning & Management methodology-sets.
See this next graphic.
This is covered extensively in my 1999 book, lean-ISD…
That’s the Rummler designed book cover – above.
For the free 410-page PDF of the book please click – here.
There are hundreds of additional resources related to CAD and my MCD (ADDIE-like) ISD methodologies in the Resources Tab of the EPPIC Web Site – the home of The Purusing Performance Blog, including articles, chapters, books, audio podcasts and video podcasts.
Check it out in the Resources Tab – here.
The New Book 6 Pack
In 2011 I redid most of my prior books into this 6 Pack…
These 6 books take a Curriculum Manager/Learning Manager/ Knowledge Management Manager – from setting up their job, then setting up an Analysis methodology to feed both ISD (initially) and then (later) the Performance Improvement methodologies.
Architecture suggests engineering, form following function, adaptation versus strict adoption. But, gravity is gravity. There are laws, rules to use – and sometimes to break.
Keeping the goal in mind is always critical…
That’s what it’s all about.
Performance.
Achieving that first effectively – and then efficiently. Where warranted by the Risks and/or Rewards in the ROI sense, of course. Not every Informal Learning situation needs to be turned into a Formal Learning situation.
Just where the risks and rewards warrant.
Click on this next image for information about ordering a Wallace 6 pack paperback or Kindle – of any or all – plus any of my other books for sale…
Thank you ISPI Bay Area for the opportunity to share!
Please remember – Adapt what you cannot Adopt.
And – please Share.
