This month we start the First Friday of February 2014 with another of my favorite gurus… Miki Lane.
Miki Lane
I met Miki a very long time ago – at an ISPI conference – the International Society for Performance Improvement – and it must have been at back in the late 1980s when I believe he says he first joined. We served together on various committees over the years and then together again on the ISPI Board of Directors in 2000-2001 when John Swinney was President. Miki and I are also both Past Presidents of ISPI.
I am a big fan and admirer of his work. More on that later.
Miki served as President of ISPI in 2010-2011.
From Harold Stolovitch & Associates site:
Miki Lane
holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to becoming a full-time consultant, Dr. Lane was Director of the Educational Media Center at McGill University, Montreal. He is the author of several technical papers on the effective use of media for facilitating learning as well as articles on improving human performance in the workplace.
Since 1979, Dr. Lane has developed numerous customized training systems for organizations ranging from smaller companies to multi-national corporations and government agencies. Over the past several years, Miki has organized a number of company wide conferences aimed at improving business, marketing and sales skills for both internal personnel and franchise owners.
Dr. Lane is also highly skilled in managing complex multimedia projects. At HSA, Miki is often the major client interface, particularly in the area of analyzing performance problems and defining project scope. He has also been designated a Certified Performance Technologist by ISPI.
Miki is also a member of the HSA professional development seminar team. He is a past president of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), Montreal Chapter, has served as a senior regional consultant for ISPI and has served as a director on its Executive Board.
His consulting work takes him all over the world.

The My First Friday Favorite Guru Series
We each have many influencers, mentors, both active and passive, knowingly and unknowingly in their respective roles in our development.
This series is my attempt to acknowledge all of them… one by one… in no particular order… as I attempt to consciously reflect on what I have have learned and who I have learned it from, regarding all things “Performance Improvement” – my focus.
I have a long list.
Lucky me.
Next month – John Carlisle.
