Good for My Facilitated Group Process PACT Methods
And most types of Facilitated Processes I would think.
I developed these in the mid-1990s for my consulting work for General Motors in a PPTT- PACT Process Technology Transfer effort – where I Trained and Certified over 300 folks from their staff and (mostly) from the staffs of their Contractors and Sub-Contractors. See the Testimonial Video at the end of this post that GM did to promote the methods internally.
The 12 Rules/Guidelines for PACT Facilitators
The 12 Rules/Guidelines for PACT facilitators that I covered in this Blog series – was “sourced from” my writings from back in 1998 in lean-ISD – in Appendices C.
And that was sourced from my field experiences in having conducted hundreds of Group Process analysis and design meetings.
While the book and slides and posts call them Rules/Guidelines – it’s much nicer to just say Guidelines. Or … Rules … if you prefer.
The 12 Rules/Guidelines for PACT Facilitators are – and the links to the prior 12 Blog Postings and Summary Post from 2008 are:
5. Use the Four Key Communications Behavior Types.
7. Write It Down and Then Discuss It.
9. Control the Process and the Participants.
10. Be Legible on the Flip Chart.
12. Assign Parking Lot Valets.
This 2008 Blog Post Series embellished the original content already published in lean-ISD.
Perhaps Your Facilitated Process Needs Something Different
My PACT Methods at GM
They – CAD and MCD/IAD – were internally known as MC and MI (Modular Curriculum and Modular Instruction).
The 1997 video GM did for internal promotion:
Early Writings About The Group Process (1984)
CAD – Training Mag – 1984 – 6 page PDF – the first publication about Curriculum Architecture Design via a Group Process – published in Training Magazine in September 1984. Original manuscript (30 pages) – How to Build a Training Structure That Won’t Keep Burning Down.
Models and Matrices- NSPI PIJ -1984 – 5 page PDF – the first publication of the performance and enabler analysis methods for ISD, from NSPI’s (ISPI’s) Performance & Instruction Journal, November 1984.
Early Presentation About The Group Process for Curriculum Architecture Design (1985)
CAD – NSPI – 1985 – 21 page PDF – this is the first national presentation on the Curriculum Architecture Design methodology which Guy Wallace delivered at the NSPI Conference on April 24, 1985 (the 1st presentation of this was done for the Chicago Chapter of NSPI the previous fall).
Final Comments
Not all Facilitated Processes should use these tips. Perhaps.
But my frustration with facilitated methods throughout my career – and my need to train and certify others in “how to do PACT” led me to these Rules. Er… Guidelines.
