L&D: Some More About Lesson Mapping

Lesson Mapping in the MCD/IAD Processes

MCD is Modular Curriculum Development/Acquisition – and IAD is Instructional Activity Development/Acquisition.

The “elements” are chunks of content that I have labeled as: Instructional Activities and Administrative Activities.

There are 5 types.

Note: MCD/IAD are roughly equivalent to the ADDIE framework. IAD efforts are when you wish to develop now some of the components of a full effort that you may or may not develop later.

Examples of IAD efforts include:

  • Developing Performance Tests or Knowledge Tests first – and Training later
  • Developing Information Content now – and Training later
  • Developing Performance Support Content now – and Training later

MCD is done after a Curriculum Architecture Design (CAd) effort – or may stand alone.

This is where Content is developed and/or acquired for performance-based Training/ Learning/ Knowledge Management efforts.
