L&D: The Reoccurring Death Notice of L&D

DeJa Vu All Over Again

I’ve seen this at least a half dozen times since 1979.

Not that the issues (problems/opportunities) in L&D aren’t real. They are.

IMO the Issue is Poor Analysis Practices

And has been since 1979. Nowadays, as it was before, most analysis focuses on Topics and not Tasks.

If We Only Started Intending to Produce Job Aids

That would require supportive Learning focused on Performance – and that would require Analysis focused on Performance. And not a Content Analysis.

And If Only We Went Beyond Shallow Learning

Which is what you get without Hands-on Practice with Feedback – multiple times.

And continued with Spaced Learning – if the job itself doesn’t offer enough of that.

The Issues Can Be Resolved

I hope for it – but I don’t bet on it.
