Auditing Your Training & Development System as a Set of Processes
The application of the Process Maturity Model can be applied to a T&D/ L&D function to determine if heroics are the source of success – or great processes – being continuously improved.
It’s like the old saw: would you rather be lucky – or good?
Your luck can run out.
EPPIC offers an Audit/Assessment of your T&D/ Learning/ Knowledge Management operations following the model in Guy W. Wallace’s book: T&D Systems View.
T&D Systems View include 47 distinct processes – organized in 12 sub-systems – that operate in virtually every function – formally or informally – in enough control or not in enough control.
The goal is not to achieve six sigma (almost) perfection – but to determine where your biggest ROI opportunities are – and address them for significant ROI. Those vary with each situational context.
The 4 Phases of the audit can be adapted as needed based on the depth of assessment desired and the approach. It can be accomplished in one meeting – if that better meets the needs and constraints of the client.
T&D Systems View – for Learning By Design versus Learning By Chance.
The Audit/Assessment engagement can simply be to conduct an assessment – or take the effort into design of a future state – and then careful planning for implementation.
The assessment effort can be accomplished via interview and document reviews – or done via a Group Process with key staff perhaps during an off-site retreat. An intense off-site retreat of 3 days. That way everyone will be on board with the results and and will have more shared understanding.
Either way you approach the assessment your can target post-assessment improvements that are feasible and significant in the potential ROI.
